How do I reach Umbria?
There are few choices for travelling to Perugia:
- Areoporto di Perugia
There are about four flights from London Stansted to Perugia via Ryanair, but they are generally quite expensive.
- Aeroporto di Roma Ciampino
Roma Ciampino is probably the best choice. It has flights from London, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam etc. - From Rome by train, it takes about three hours and half to get to Perugia. (Trenitalia site)
- From Rome by car, it takes about two hours. (map)
Alternative airports to Rome.
Perugia is not far from Florence, Pisa, Ancona, Pescara Airports.
When should I arrive? Where should I stay?
Our advice is to arrive on Friday 29th August, sleep at a Agriturismo (Country house) on the night of the 29th, and then visit Perugia the day after. A very good idea is to leave the car in Pian Di Massiano and get the Mini-Metro climbing up to the town centre.
Where is the weeding? At what time is it?
The wedding is at 5.30 pm in the town centre of Perugia, Palazzo dei Priori , Sala dei Notari.
It is a civil marriage, so those of you who are worrying about long ceremony... no panic. It will be a half-an-hour ceremony!
As the town centre is closed to the traffic, the best way to reach Palazzo dei Priori is to park the car at Pian di Massiano, and then, from there, take the Mini Metro' which leads you to the town centre.
Ok, what next?
After the weeding, we take the cars and we drive in a line to Castello di S. Apollinare, about 15km away (map). The starters begin at about 7pm and then we follow up to the dinner. Then music and partying until late! ;-)
What should I visit around Perugia?
Umbria has plenty of nice and cousy towns/villages to visit: Perugia, Gubbio (not-to-miss!), Assisi (beutiful), Spoleto (very nice, I -Giorgio!- was born there...), Todi, Orvieto, la Val Nerina.
And, of course, you should spend some days in Rome, our second "home city" (but do not take the car in Rome... it can be quite complicated if you don't know the city). Florence is wonderful as well, werecommend you to spend some time over there and to explore it fully. Pisa is a very quick matter: in half a day you could see the "piazza dei Miracoli".
If you would like to go to the sea, we recommend you to visit "Isola d'Elba" and Isola del Giglio... crystal-clear, blue seas... and they should not be too busy at the end of August.
